Linking Google Scholar to the library ensures that when you search for articles, you’ll see direct links to full-text content provided by the library’s subscriptions! Without this setup, you may be prompted to pay for access unnecessarily.

To set your library:

  1. Go to Google Scholar

  2. Click the menu icon (☰) in the top left corner.

  3. Select Settings.

  4. In the left menu, click Library links.

  5. Search for Washington & Lee University.

  6. Check the box next to Washington & Lee University

    • Most users will see two options by default:

      • Washington & Lee University

      • Washington & Lee University Law Library

  7. Click Save.

How will I know it’s working?

After saving, you’ll see links such as ViewIt@W&L appear next to articles in your Google Scholar results. Clicking these links will take you through the library’s authentication system to access the resource.

Do I need to log in with my university credentials?

Yes. If you are off-campus, you’ll be prompted to log in using your W&L credentials. This verifies that you’re eligible to access the library’s subscription content.
