The University Library provides both historical and contemporary access to The New York Times for current students, faculty, and staff.
- Access the Historical New York Times (1851-2018),
- To access contemporary content, set up an individual account via W&L's institutional subscription.
- IMPORTANT: If your browser displays a security message, click "Ignore."
- When prompted with a login screen, under "Find My Institution" search "Washington and Lee."
- If prompted, log in with your W&L username and password.
- You should then see a screen that says "Welcome to The New York Times." On that screen, click "Create Account" to set up your personal account within W&L's subscription.
- Create your account.
Already a subscriber?
If you already have a personal NYT account tied to your W&L email address, you will need to cancel that account in order to use the W&L funded account. To cancel an existing account, contact New York Times Customer Care.
*Keep in mind, that the Library’s subscription to The New York Times has some restrictions that your personal subscription may not have—e.g., you may pay for their games package. Consider the options carefully before deciding to cancel your own subscription. (If you registered for your paid subscription under another of your email addresses, you can still register for the Libraries’ subscription using your W&L email address.
